What is therapy?

Therapy is an umbrella term for a series of confidential conversations with a professional who is trained in mental health. Professional Clinicians include counsellors, cognitive behavioural therapists, clinical and counselling psychologists and psychotherapists. Talk Works offers a range of current, evidence-based therapies provided by highly qualified and experienced members of our clinical team.

Types of therapy

Counselling

Counselling can help you with problems such as relationship issues, bereavement, stress, low self-esteem, abuse or worries. Counselling often explores patterns in the way we relate to other people.

Psychology

Psychologists are trained in a number of models of therapy including CBT. Psychologists work with people who are experiencing a range of mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders and addiction.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a type of talking therapy that focuses on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and behaviour.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprogramming (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprogramming is a highly effective and proven method of psychotherapy which can rapidly allow people to heal from trauma and overcome other distressing and debilitating life experiences such as PTSD.

How do I book an appointment?

If your organisation has a contract in place with Talk Works then you should talk to your HR team, Occupational Health or Line Manager. If you are funding therapy yourself, simply complete the “Refer Yourself” form or call us on 0191 4909301. You can choose to have sessions face to face, over the phone or via video call.

Is it confidential?

Confidence and trust are essential to the process of therapy, and we are ethically and professionally bound by these key principles. For employees referred through employers, your Clinician will ask you how much information you would like to be shared with your employer. It’s OK to choose not to share any information, in that instance we will only share the dates of therapy sessions with your employer.

Where will my appointment take place?

We offer a range of face-to-face, telephone and virtual appointments. Our nationwide clinicians can support your individual needs via face-to-face, telephone or virtual appointments.
